48 - The Birth as Initiation

From Teachings of Christ, Vol. 1, The Birth of Christ, by Torkom Saraydarian, pp 89-90

Christmas is the day in which we celebrate the first initiation, and the symbol of the first initiation is the sun moving to the north. The sun is moving to the north, and the greater light is coming to earth. In ancient times the Christmas day or the Winter Solstice was celebrated with great bonfires.

The candlelight service is a symbol of those bonfires. It is bringing the message of increasing light and love and power, and the candles represent the man who is taking the first initiation toward light.

When the sun moves north, the light of the sun increases in the Northern Hemisphere and the wisdom of the sun increases within our soul. All these are symbols, but the most important thing is that on the eve of Christmas we dedicate ourselves to the mystery of the first initiation.

47 - Symbolism of the Christmas Tree

From Teachings of Christ, Vol. 1, The Birth of Christ, by Torkom Saraydarian, pp 53-54

Question:  What does the wreath symbolize?

Answer:  I think decorations symbolize the beauties and virtues of man’s nature. As he becomes self-actualized and appreciates the beauty within himself, he expresses more beauty. And how does he express it? With such things — the shiny things — man shows that he is really manifesting a new birth within himself.

Actually, the Christmas tree is a very beautiful symbol. In all ages we have had the tree. In the Kabala there is the tree that is called the Tree of Life. But you must understand the symbolism of that tree. You are going from one virtue to another virtue until eventually you meet three great powers that are symbolized in all religions as Goodness, Beauty, and Truth. As you enter into the sphere of Goodness, Beauty, and Truth, you express these three powers in your daily life. They are the fruits that the tree produces. So it is symbolic that the roots of this tree are in heaven, not in the earth.

46 - Celebrating Christ’s Birth

From Teachings of Christ, Vol. 1, The Birth of Christ, by Torkom Saraydarian, pp 12-13

The most important point in celebrating the birth of Christ is that in each human being there is a Christ nature. This is a very fundamental concept. In each human being there are great potentials. If these great potentials do not manifest through us, then all that we are doing, saying, and thinking work against our own survival and evolution.

We can see this in world history, especially now. What the world needs is not to “worship” Christ. If you worship but do not awaken the Christ nature within you, you have failed in your life. The greatest message He gave to us was, “You are going to be like Me.”  That was so important. He even said, “You can do greater things than I did.” What great faith and trust He had in the human being! He had that faith and trust because He knew that every human being is a spark of the Almighty Creator.

How is the Christ nature going to manifest through you? Physically, you are going to be beautiful so that people look at you and admire you, saying, “Look at her; look at how she dresses. How beautiful she is.” Under whatever conditions and circumstances you find yourself, you are going to make those conditions work for the best. Emotionally, you are going to radiate compassion, love, serenity, and calmness. Do the same for your mental nature.

45 - Creating a Lasting Love

From Science of Becoming Oneself by Torkom Saraydarian, p.164

A lasting love between two people is not ready made. You cannot purchase it or find it by chance.  You must plant the seed, tend it, protect it, and give it the needed soil, water, light and energy; in time it will flourish.  The growth of love between two people resembles climbing a high mountain.  The farther they climb, the closer they come to each other, and one day they meet on the peak of the mountain.  To climb the mountain means to raise the level of being, to gradually clear the consciousness, enlarge the horizon of light and service, and enter into deeper levels of responsibility toward each other.  Only through such living is the path of life built....

Love is life; love is the song of the Absolute, and all manifestation is a harp through which He is playing His music expressing His love....

44 - My Books by Torkom Saraydarian

A Poem written by Torkom on July 8, 1993

My books
are not sheets of papers
with prints
and diagrams
and numbers.
My books are
vortexes,
energy waves,
lightnings.
They are visions
and roaring
waterfalls
and rivers and rapids.

My books are not written
on sheets of paper,
they are frequencies
in Space.
The forms of my books
may perish
but the Spirit
will live forever
traveling with spirals
of visions.

43 - The Past – and the Progress of Our Soul

From Dynamics of the Soul by Torkom Saraydarian, pg. 197-198

What have we done in the past for the progress of our soul? Some people have physical problems, emotional problems, and mental problems. And sometimes they seek the causes of these problems at the wrong address.

There is a very important cause of our troubles that we can explain in this way: There are some kinds of fruits in which the kernel grows but the shell does not grow. The shell is the physical body, the emotional body, and the mental body. It is traditions, your knowledge, your philosophy, your psychology. It is your money, your dollars, your possessions, your car. These are the shell. The shell is so hard that it does not allow the core to radiate out or to bloom. And because the core is strong and eventually breaks the shell, it causes lots of trouble in the shell. It cracks it. And this cracking is your problems, your emotional problems, physical problems, and mental problems.

42 - Do Not Be Afraid Of Crises

From Dynamics of the Soul by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 51

We need to understand what the mantram, “Lead us, O Lord, from darkness to light, from the unreal to the real, from death to immortality, from chaos to beauty” means. Once you become a soul, many things can happen to your body, to your emotions and mind, but you do not lose your joy.

Joy is not happiness. Happiness is physical, emotional, and mental. Joy is found only on the soul level. When you reach this stage, no matter what happens in the lower levels you are above the clouds in an airplane. You can see the agitation of the sea and wind below, but they do not bother you because you are flying above them. Urgings, strivings and spiritual aspirations are found on every level, and they also push us to move forward. Every time you start striving at something, you get a message from the Guardian Angel, from your physical and spiritual teachers, or from a Great One like Christ, like your Master. Someone kicks you and says, “Get up and get going.” If you take this message seriously and listen, you progress. But if you ignore the message, you lose it. Great Teachers say, “We do not always hint. We may only hint once or twice a year.” If you listen, They increase the hints. If you do not listen, They say, “He is still asleep. Let him remain in bed until pain and suffering awaken him.”

41 - How We Kill Our Soul

From Dynamics of the Soul by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 155-156

We should have a badge which says, “What do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your soul?” It is something which every day must bug us. As you approach slowly, slowly to the coffin, think about it. Nothing will help you. That is the critical moment when you can have a little awakening and, for the next life, you will behave a little better if you did not paralyze your soul or make it really sick so that there is no chance for it to recover.

There are seven ways in which you can learn to kill your soul. The killing of the soul or the dying of the soul starts every time you do something against your conscience, or you do something against the law of love and synthesis and unity, whether it hurts you or makes you happy. Every time you do something against your heart, you wound your soul. If you continue doing things that are against your heart and conscience, eventually you make your soul sick. When your soul becomes very sick and dies, you live as a corpse in this life, spreading the most contaminated radiations around you because you are dead but living. That is why Christ said, “Let the dead bury the dead.” When Christ said, “dead,” He meant their bodies were alive but they were dead.

Living only for your body, pleasures, hatred, revenge, possession, and position kills your soul. It binds you so that there is nothing else in the Universe. M.M. says, “When you go out at night, look at the stars.” We lose the vision because we are so occupied here with killing and hating each other or acting against our own conscience. It is so important to see. Every time you are totally engaged with your bodies and pleasures and hatred, possessions and positions, you lose your soul because you do not nourish it. It needs nourishment.

How do you nourish your soul? You nourish it by Beauty, Goodness, Righteousness, Joy, Freedom, Striving, Sacrificing yourself for human upliftment, not partial upliftment. Those who are awake know that humanity is one body and every time we are hurting one part we are hurting everything. This idea is for the future and needs perhaps one, two, three hundred years of suffering and pain and destruction so that we eventually understand what we are being told.

40 - Six Birthday Gifts: Gift Six – The Gift of Gratitude

From Other Worlds by Torkom Saraydarian, pp. 414-415.

On your birthday it is good to include some solitary time for sincere thoughts of gratitude.  Make a list of those to whom you are grateful.  Start with you parents.  If they are dead, send them thoughts of deep gratitude; if they are alone, send them a card letting them know how grateful you are for all their service, trouble, and care.

Then send gratitude to all your Teachers, starting with kindergarten up to the present, and express deep gratitude to them.  Remember to send gratitude to friends and acquaintances who helped you, especially during critical times.  You can even send gratitude to people who, though they hurt you badly, taught you a great lesson or kept you alert and awake and thus protected you from falling into future mistakes.

It is wonderful to do this on your birthday to renew the network of memories and let your love and gratitude flow through the network.

39 - Six Birthday Gifts: Gift Five – The Gift of Celebration

From Other Worlds by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 414.

The next thing is to have a party.  Some people think that birthday parties are an expression of vanity, but they are not.  Great Masters have birthday parties.  Christ had a birthday party attended by three kings.  The New Testament did not write about it, but it was a great party.  If three kings come to my birthday, what else could I want?  They brought jewels, incense, and precious stones which Jesus used.  His mother did not have to worry about him financially because the three kings provided everything.

The esoteric, deeper meaning is that at the time of your birthday you are susceptible and very sensitive to new impressions and inspirations.  This is the secret.  When you have loving friends around you who are in joy, gratitude, love, and compassion, all of them together build an electromagnetic sphere around you through which you receive higher inspirations.  Without your friends, you cannot do as much.  That is why you should work to be worthy of friends who will come and express their love and good thoughts.  When a good atmosphere is created, the person who is having the birthday attracts tremendous energy into the field of this magnetic tension.

It is therefore important for everyone to celebrate his birthday.  Invite a few friends, prepare nice food, and be happy together.  Celebrate, and slowly become worthy of and responsive to their well-being.  Pray for them, bless them, love them more and more, and work for their well-being.  But if you don’t have friends, they do not evoke the highest sensitivity from you.  They do not awaken your soul.  God created societies for this reason.  People who live responsibly in societies can uplift those societies and themselves.

38 - Six Birthday Gifts: Gift Four – The Gift of Accountability

From Other Worlds by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 414.

The next thing to do for your birthday is to have a little seclusion.  Take a few hours, a whole day, a week or even a month, if you can, and escape.  Go to a cabin in the mountains, or somewhere else peaceful, and start thinking about yourself.  “I am really stupid and obnoxious, you know?   But I also have some very good qualities.  I have made a lot of good plans, but also some that are bad for the future.  How am I going to sort out this mess?” Begin to correct yourself and make plans for what you are going to do.

37 - Six Birthday Gifts: Gift Three – The Gift from a Lighted Candle

From Other Worlds by Torkom Saraydarian, pp. 412-413.

On the night of your birthday, light a candle and let it burn all night. Try to understand the wisdom in the candle as it burns. This is a practice that was followed in monasteries and it is a tradition that we followed as a family. When I was a small child, I would wake up during the night of my birthday and see the beautiful candlelight and watch the shadows playing over everything. I asked my father to tell me what it meant, but he said, “Well, watch what happens when the candle is lit.”  I thought about it as I watched the candle and said, “There is light, and also, the candle becomes smaller and smaller as it burns.”  “That’s just what I wanted you to see!” he replied.  “The candle is the symbol of a life that is dedicated to spreading light, beauty, goodness, truth, and freedom – at the expense of yourself….”

36 - Six Birthday Gifts: Gift Two – The Gift from Our Heart

From Other Worlds by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 412.

On the day of our birthday, we must offer out hearts and say, “I forgive that girl, that man, that person; and God, please bless them. I don’t want anything wrong now with the start of my day.” Forgiveness deletes certain unwanted documents from your computer so that you do not carry messy transactions of the past with you into your new day. Express gratitude to those who have loved you; forgive those who sometimes bugged you so badly that they tested your alertness and consciousness.  These people sometimes need more gratitude than others.

35 - Six Birthday Gifts: Gift One – The Gift of Rededication

From Other Worlds by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 412.

On birthdays, we can rededicate ourselves to our Teacher, to the Teaching and to its guidance.

We can rededicate ourselves to the labor carried on in the name of Beauty, Goodness, Righteousness, Joy, and Freedom.

We can rededicate ourselves to focus on the purpose of our life.

34 - Six Birthday Gifts - The Beginning

From Other Worlds by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 412.

On birthdays, we can meditate for a few hours to receive the message of our birthday.  Which is the most essential work we must do, and what is the most essential direction we must take?

Then we need to ask ourselves what we are going to do and then make a decision in the light of the Most High.  Pray, meditate, and then ask what you should do.  Sometimes you are given a clear impression of what you need to do, and you can start right away.  At other times you get the impression that nobody is going to tell you what to do, and that it is your business to decide and find out on your own. Ask your Soul, “What am I going to do during this new year?” Then make projects and plans for the year.

33 - The Peace Messenger of the Iroquois Nation

Hiawatha and the Great Peace

Book By Torkom Saraydarian
Reviewed by Dr. Robert Constas

The Legend of Hiawatha and the great Native American prophet, Deganawidah, is one of the most inspiring stories in all religious and political history. This legend is based on historical events occurring before Columbus came to the Americas in 1492. Virgin birth, miracles, cannibalism, and black magic are parts of a story about transformation of character, the establishment of a lasting political and social structure in America, and the foundation of representative democracy that led to the formation of the American Constitution.

In, Hiawatha and the Great Peace, Torkom Saraydarian superimposes on this legend his version of what likely occurred, weaving in and out of the history the inspired masterful oratory of Hiawatha. Being the prominent character of the book, Hiawatha speaks messages of spiritual and political wisdom, expressed in great simplicity and beauty. It is as if someone who was actually there recorded the speeches, and used the power of verbal music to convey the essence of the meaning. This is the expression of Saraydarian’s genius.

32 - Torkom Saraydarian: Evoking Enthusiasm For A Magnificent Future

Book Reviews By Leon Fermanian

Torkom Saraydarian has authored countless books, booklets, educational videos, and musical compositions in an effort to bridge the gap between spiritual principles and the practical life.

His books, which have been translated into German, Portuguese, Greek, Spanish, Armenian and other languages, are forged in the fire and light of six decades of continuous meditation, extensive synthesis of world religions and esoteric practices, and field experiences in spiritual counseling.

According to market research in self-help and psychology books, the US market was worth $9.59 billion in 2005. The market grew more than 24% from 2003-2005 and expected to grow 11.4% yearly through 2010.

This quantum growth indicates that the reading public's search for tools and formulae to better survive and flourish in the coming years is gaining unprecedented momentum. At long last, books on angels, the caretaking of the soul, the supremacy of love are now firmly lodged in best seller lists and even in community college courses!

31 - Leadership and Free Will

From The Mysteries of Will Power by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 109.

In coming centuries, philosophers will not talk so much about the free will but about the united wills of nations and humanity.

A great leader in the future will be considered one who has a greater number of wills united with his will. Or, a great leader is one who is able to unite his will with a greater number of wills. Thus the great leader will represent a group, a nation, even humanity. All component parts of the will of the leader will work in unison to carry on the fulfillment of a great plan to reach a great purpose.

The process of unification of wills is a very long, painful, complicated, strenuous, dangerous path.

Every degree of unification of wills creates a leader, a group leader. Such a leader must not only labor to fuse wills of his associates, but he must also carefully watch his own will in order to avoid manipulating the wills of others or building his separate will.

30 - Finding the Causes of Defeat is Sometimes More Important Than Your Temporary Success

From Dynamics of Success by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 23.

Remember that in failure you are not going to condemn even yourself, but instead, scientifically look for the causes. Sometimes to find such causes of defeat is more important than your temporary success.

Often your success last for a few years, but when you eliminate the causes of failure in you, your success becomes a continually growing adventure.

Depend on yourself and make your success the fruit of your own labor. Of course, do not forget that you must express gratitude to the Invisible Forces who helped you because you helped yourself.

29 - Meeting Your Obstacles at Future Crossroads

From Dynamics of Success by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 30.

Take the field of your service, the field of your business, the field of your family or social life and find those obstacles and hindrances that are preventing you from expanding, growing and flourishing. That is very important because as long as you are looking from behind many hindrances, problems and obstacles, they grow and then they run ahead of you and meet you at another crossroad on your path in the future.

If there is a little problem, an obstacle, a hindrance, or a misunderstanding, do not ignore it but try to solve it instead. If it remains unsolved, it will grow and become your tail. Success must make your physical and spiritual life beautiful, but it also must dissolve the problems that you have, the frictions that exist in your life. Unless you create an open space for yourself by solving your problems and obstacles, you cannot fly, you cannot proceed in your success, because every problem left unsolved will grow and create difficulties for your future advancements.

28 - Not-So-Obvious Factor For Success: Learn to Walk!

From Dynamics of Success by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 66.

A good walk is important.

I was in a firm where they were hiring women and men. The man from the firm asked me how I would evaluate the women. I said, “Look at how they are walking.” Two or three years later they told me they understood why the walk was so important.

Which woman are you hiring, the one who is walking like an elephant or a fox? If you pay attention, you will understand how they are walking and what that walking signifies about their character.

Learn how to walk.

I suggest that daily, for two or three minutes, you walk in front of a mirror very beautifully, rhythmically, harmoniously, and do the best you think you can do. Then watch how some people are walking and try to think which one would you hire if you wanted someone to work for you or be your friend. It does not matter whether you are heavy or lean. It is the tempo of your walking, the way you are moving.

Walking expresses all your psychology!

27 - Not-So-Obvious Factor For Success: Indifference to Flattery

From Dynamics of Success by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 102.

Be indifferent toward those who praise you or flatter you or blame you. These are often signals of bad intention. If people praise you, be very careful. If they scold you, be very careful because maybe it is a test to reveal what you are. Be indifferent toward the praise and the blame and take them professionally. If they are saying that you are just wonderful because you can type one hundred pages in an hour, you know that is flattery. You know it. If they say that you are the worst human being, do not accept it because you are not. Stay in your clear thinking, demonstrating indifference toward praise and blame.

26 - Not-So-Obvious Factor For Success: It is Not About Money!

From Dynamics of Success by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 97.

I was traveling from New York to Los Angeles and a man asked me, “What are you going to do in California?”

I said, “I am going to write books.”

“Oh, he said, “you do not even know English. You cannot write books.”

I said, “My English is not so good, but I have great ideas. Eventually, ideas will help build my language and maybe I will be able to talk better than I do now, but I am going to write books.”

“Books do not bring money to you” he insisted.

I said, “I am not writing books to bring money. I am writing to tell people something that I fee will benefit them.”

He said, “That is stupid!”

Years passed and I became really successful. How was it that I became successful?... Because I did not do it to make money. I did it to help people. That is what I want to convey to you. When you are opening a store, a stationery store, a health food store, even a restaurant, your first thought will be, “I want lots of people to come and benefit from my labor.” The restaurants that really think about the health of people are the most successful restaurants. Those people who want to make only money cut corners and eventually lose their whole business.

25 - Not-So-Obvious Factor For Success: Keep Your Personal Life Private!

From Dynamics of Success by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 98.

Do not discuss your personal life, your failures, your defeats with your co-workers or your boss. Be professional and impersonal. That brings great success to you. Immediately when the boss smiles at you, you reveal everything that you did in the past. “I had five hundred boyfriends.” “Really?” “I was sick with that illness.” “I divorced this way and that way.” What are you doing? You are revealing and exposing your obnoxiousness, your past faults, and you are not going to build a good image in the mind of your boss or leader. He is not asking you about your past obnoxiousness. Close your mouth and answer his professional questions. That is so important for your success.

24 - Not-So-Obvious Factor For Success: Striving

From Dynamics of Success by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 102.

Remember that not only does the environment affect your striving, but through your striving you also influence your environment. The powers that you must exercise are:

  • The power to not be influenced by the negative factors of your environment
  • The power to annihilate the negative factors in your environment and introduce pro-survival factors
You are equal to the creative influences that you exercise on your environment. Your spiritual influence upon people decides what you are.

Your influence can be recognized as destructive or constructive. Ego, vanity, superiority, and inferiority concepts must be destroyed. But group consciousness, humility, cooperation, and recognition of Inner Divinity must be cultivated and developed.

23 - Creativity and Persistence

“Torkom's writings are a beautiful, colorful tapestry, the warp and weft of the threads being a blend of moral teachings, esoteric knowledge, personal stories given as illustrations and instructions on how to apply them in our lives.  This beautiful tapestry forms a picture of the road to our own divinity.

“Our consistent moods, whether positive or negative, over time form our character.  Torkom teaches us that we don't have to be slaves to our negative moods or to feel like helpless victims in the face of our depressive moods. By applying his instructions given in this brief excerpt, we can master our moods, thereby our circumstances, instead of them mastering us.  This is how we can take control of our destiny. He states that creativity requires five elements, one of which is persistence. I love this excerpt and wanted to share it with all our readers. It has helped me stay focused on my creative efforts, despite the challenges that creative persons face every day!” (Melissa Lundberg, an artist and a student of the Ageless Wisdom Teachings, lives and works in Sweden)

22 – Father’s Day — Remembering and Forgiving

By Torkom Saraydarian

On Father’s Day I like to direct your attention to the Father who is the Father of us all. There is a very healing and very deep meaning in it that sometimes we realize we are the sons and daughters of One Father. Many, many problems on the earth and even in our families and nations come from forgetting that we are the sons and daughters of One Father. That gives a linkage, that brings you together, ties you together to a common Source, and that common Source slowly influences and strengthens you and the ties between you. When Jesus gave the Lord’s Prayer, He was really giving a psychological, healing formula for humanity that sometimes they really direct their attention, their aspiration to the common Source from which we originated.

[The next thing is that] ... we are going to dare and try to overcome many difficulties on the way of this memory of our fathers. All of you have fathers. Most of them are dead although some are alive. It does not matter. You carry in your genes your father. You carry the blood of your father beating in you and it is very interesting. It is not only the blood, the genes. You carry their emotional atoms, their mental atoms, their spiritual seeds whether they were germinated or they were dead. You carry them in your blood. On this day send a goodwill gesture to your father and if your father was nasty and you had lots of wounds from your father, give a total forgiveness or a total gratitude to your father so that you break the link of the wound that is created within you. It is a very healing process. Bless his soul.

21 - Unlimited Power to Transform Yourself

Dear Readers:

Below is an article written by Torkom Saraydarian, first published in the Group Newsletter “The Aquarius” in January 1983. It is as inspiring today as it was then. At the end of the article, he asks readers to do their part in order to help distribute the Teaching in ever expanding areas around the world.

Torkom was unabashed and unapologetic about the true Teaching. He believed in its transformative power, and never lost an opportunity to spread the work and to be an embodiment of the Teaching. We reprint this simple, yet powerful message for your upliftment and empowerment.

Torkom began his service to others as a young man. His quest was to find the source of light and to distribute that same light to others. We continue the work that he began through our efforts at TSG Foundation. Our commitment is to present to you the pure and clear Teaching. Our intention is to spread the spirit of the Living Christ, the hidden glory in each human being. We promise to emphasize Beauty, Goodness, Truth, and Spiritual Joy. We will carry out this mission with our focus on service, health, and harmony.

This article will become part of Torkom's autobiography which, with your support, TSG will publish in the coming year.

We too ask our readers to find new readers for our published materials. Try to increase the number of those who benefit from our work. We can change life when we strive to transform and heal our individual life and then spread this healing energy throughout our life and our contacts.

We hope you enjoy this article.

20 - Initiate Consciousness: Seeing – Hearing – Speaking

What is Initiate Consciousness?

by Torkom Saraydarian
The image of three monkeys holding their hands over their eyes, mouth, and ears commonly represent not seeing evil, not speaking evil, not hearing evil. Does this mean that we simply shut our eyes, mouth, and ears from life around us? There is something much more subtle about this little image than the act of shutting out. Here is what Torkom says about seeing, hearing, and speaking as a true disciple:

We are told that in still higher mysteries the Initiate develops his sight in such a way that though things are there, he does not see them. Though words are there, he does not hear them. Though ideas are in his mouth, he does not speak them. It is not easy to see things but not see, not hear, not speak, because in their level things exist not as they are but as what they symbolize. The essence is not seen when the form is seen. The essence is not heard when words are heard. Ideas are not spoken when words are spoken.

19 - 5 - Safety Screening for Meditation

By Robert Constas, M.D.

The question was asked: What if I have been taking medications to treat depression or other mental health issues, how do I determine if I am ready for meditation?

Here is the final of the five part response given to this question:

5. What to consider for safety screening for meditation:

The name of the condition (diagnosis) is not the most important thing to consider when screening for safety for meditation. The major issues are:

  • How the condition affects the clarity and stability of consciousness.
  • How the condition affects the exercise of willpower.
  • How the condition affects the ability of the person to concentrate, remain objective, follow directions in the courses, and have a balanced approach to discipleship.
  • How the medication’s side effects affect consciousness.
  • What kind of meditation you are considering — not all meditation practices are the same, nor are they all suitable for everyone. Finding the right kind of meditation is important.
Even common antihistamines used for allergies or the common cold can make a person drowsy.

19 - 4 - Safety Screening for Meditation

By Robert Constas, M. D.

The question was asked: What if I have been taking medications to treat depression or other mental health issues, how do I determine if I am ready for meditation?

4. Only those people who have a stable personality should meditate:

Imbalance may appear as poor health, mental illness, lack of personality integration, lack of social development, lack of understanding of the spiritual path, or lack of commitment. Or, the person may feel that the effects of meditation are immediate and can be accomplished without any self-exertion. If these are present, meditation is not advisable until the problems are cleared and balance achieved. Some people believe that meditation can solve all their health problems, especially emotional and mental disorders. Most serious emotional/mental/psychiatric disorders often have an inherited, genetic basis. One danger is that the practitioner of meditation will fail to pursue appropriate medical treatment, whether psychological counseling or drug therapy.

3. Preliminary self-examination prior to starting a meditation program:

Before beginning a program of meditation, the candidate should examine his/her nature and life to determine if it is safe for them to proceed. Here are a series of questions to help you evaluate your readiness to be involved in meditation:

19 - 2 - Safety Screening for Meditation

By Dr. Robert Constas, M.D.

The question was asked: What if I have been taking medications to treat depression or other mental health issues, how do I determine if I am ready for meditation?

2. Meditation may bring episodes of over stimulation

Over stimulation may lead to feelings of inadequacy, fear, and imbalance mentally, emotionally, and even physically. An over stimulated person will often discontinue the meditation and other spiritual work. This may actually be the healthy thing to do for a while until balance is restored.  Over stimulation may also lead to thinking that one is a very special person, and may even exaggerate spiritual ambition thus leading to making false claims for one’s status and even delusions of grandeur. Another sign of over stimulation is criticism of coworkers. Vanity is another indication of over stimulation. Vanity is believing that we are more than what we really are. If we approach meditation from a selfish and self-centered perspective, vanity is a danger that we will eventually encounter.

19 - 1 - Safety Screening for Meditation

By Dr. Robert Constas, M.D

1. Approaching Meditation

Question: What if I have been taking medications to treat depression or other mental health issues, how do I determine if I am ready for meditation?

The practice of meditation is like watering a garden: when we tend a garden and water it, the seeds sprout. The first seeds to sprout are usually weeds. The creation of a beautiful garden requires the care of a diligent and vigilant gardener who is able to discern the difference between a weed and a desirable flower. Weeds need to be removed regularly so as to allow room for the flowers to bloom.

Most systems of meditation require substantial amounts of concentration. Meditation brings extra energy into our physical brain, emotional and mental natures, and into our etheric centers [chakras] for better and for worse. Healthy persons can absorb the extra energy and use it for constructive service and transformation. Persons who are not balanced run the risk of further imbalance. If you feel that you are not emotionally or mentally stable, this sort of meditation may not be right for you. You may need to begin with meditation that teaches you how to relax and how to observe your emotions and mental events. Or, you may wish to engage in brief periods of reading and contemplation.

18 - Meditation and Obstacles on the Path

By Torkom Saraydarian

The life of an aspirant or of a disciple is not an easy life. We all have our obstacles on the Path. Once we decide to do regular meditation, according to the ancient rules, many unexpected obstacles start to appear. The disciple, however, is a man not paralyzed by obstacles, but one who is inflamed more and more with a continuous inner radiance. He even enjoys obstacles because “he grows through them.”

Each obstacle evokes a new line to be developed in our nature, a new tool to be built for the battle, a new means to bridge the gaps and to master our nature. We do not ask for happiness, only for growth....

The student is tested also by his beloved ones. His wife, her husband, or the children may create many problems and put him in a state of worry or depression in which it seems to him that it is impossible to carry on his meditation, his study, and special type of service.

17 - Using The Great Invocation for Healing

By: Torkom Saraydarian

(See lecture download/CD by Torkom on The Deeper Layers of the Great Invocation)

From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.

From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Christ return to Earth.

From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men —
The Purpose which the Masters know and serve.

From the centre which we call the race of men
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.

Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth. 1

As you say the Great Invocation, visualize the whole world, all humanity, and spread the Light, Love, and Power all over the planet so that men everywhere, without distinction of race, color, or religion, may be flooded by the Light which cleanses away all ignorance and reveals the truth of the divine origin of man; by Love that urges us to live as one humanity and prepares the way for world brotherhood; by the Power that gives us courage to live according to our highest vision for the highest good of the one humanity.

16 - Mother's Blessings: A Poem to Mother

By: Torkom Saraydarian

When I was leaving my home
to walk on my own feet and trace the thread
of my destiny, my Mother looked at me
with stern eyes and said,

"I feel I will never see you again, but you will be always
in my heart if you follow the direction of your Soul and beware of chaos.
Direction exists only on the path of beauty, goodness, and truth. All other paths lead us into chaos.
Chaos is a situation in which you feel abandoned, or you run
after your tail or you crucify things you worshiped.
Chaos is a situation in which you deny your essential divinity, your dignity.
Chaos is a situation in which your pleasures are your goals, and your vanity is your guide.
Chaos is a situation when there is anarchy within your mind and your heart."

15 - Expand Your Consciousness to the Higher Worlds

By Torkom Saraydarian
It is important to have an expanding consciousness before we enter into the Subtle World. It is only through an expanding consciousness that we can enrich our life in the Subtle World and assimilate the gifts of new conditions.

One of the ways to expand our consciousness here on earth is to create a certain tension in our life and establish communication with a consciousness that is far more advanced than ours. Tension increases our mental receptivity. Communicating with a higher consciousness awakens in us the buried seeds of treasures accumulated throughout ages. Generally, these seeds turn into spiritual urges in the subtle planes and propel us to higher achievements.

After such an expansion, whenever we enter into the Subtle Worlds, through sleep or meditation, we expose ourselves to a greater light and to very unusual conditions. These things strongly affect our consciousness, and when we return to our earthly habitat, we immediately notice an expansion of consciousness which remains strong for a few minutes or hours, then fades away.

Such periods of expansion of consciousness are very valuable because they provide new possibilities, new viewpoints, new measures, and new visions.

14 - Christ in Ageless Wisdom Teachings

By Torkom Saraydarian

How do we understand the meaning of Christ? Here are some excerpts:

It was He Who, for the first time in human history, sped up the release of His Inner Fire to such a degree that two thousand years ago, He entered into the Father's House. We are told that He has already penetrated into Cosmic Astral Plane and that He is now preparing Himself for a greater labor in the Aquarian Age.

The Symphony of the Zodiac, p. 44.

We are told that at certain stages Masters leave our planet to further Their progress on the path of higher evolution. However, the Tibetan Master tells us that Christ decided in 1945 to stay with humanity another 2000 years. This decision is one of the signs of the Divine patience of Christ.

11 – Beauty Releases Psychic Energy

By Torkom Saraydarian

(Special Offer: The Power of Beauty, a collection of four lectures on Beauty by Torkom available as downloads or CD.)

Psychic energy is the energy flow which comes out of your Innermost Center, out of your creative Core, electrifying and charging all your vehicles with the energy of life, love, and light. It is the energy that brings to your vehicles the harmony, the bliss and the serenity of the Inner Self. When psychic energy circulates freely in the personality vehicles, it harmonizes man with the rhythm of the Cosmic Life.

Great artists and leaders have a greater charge of psychic energy which radiates out of them: deeds, words, thoughts, and creative expressions. This psychic energy gives fiery quality to your expressions. This psychic energy gives fiery quality to your expressions, and whatever you do you put people in enthusiastic action.

8 - Ageless Wisdom: Initiation as a Path of Living Service

Initiation: Path of Living Service

Book by Torkom Saraydarian
Reviewed by Dr. Robert Constas

If you have been a student of esoteric teachings or simply interested in occult knowledge, you know the term Initiation carries with it an aura of mystery and ceremony and various practices and beliefs. People mistakenly believe that someone else gives them an initiation, much like a blessing, and that rank and importance is conferred on a person through an outer ceremony. But in this book, Torkom dispels many of the misconceptions surrounding this topic. It defines initiation as part of the stages of spiritual growth. Torkom makes the topic practical and come alive with clear and understandable descriptions of the true Initiation process. At each step of the way, you will know the practical results of having completed one of the levels of Initiation and what awaits you on the next stage of the process. He presents hope and vision that not only is Initiation attainable, but also that we absolutely need to strive for it to fulfill our purpose and mission in life and feel good about the direction of our life.

Initiation is shown to be a two tiered path: The first is to expand in consciousness and understanding of life on a next higher dimension through learning, study, and striving. The second is the application of the understanding to our daily life through service. Initiation is living service. We are not initiated when we know something, but when we become something greater than before. The path of knowing and becoming moves from the dimensions of this world and then beyond earth to other planetary schools, the university of the solar system and throughout our galaxy. Service and growth continue into higher and higher levels of existence and beingness. The space is filled with invisible worlds in various densities of spirit-matter and these dimensions become a reality through the initiatory process.

7 - Letter to a Master: We Are in Need of Peace

Dear Torkom,

I can’t imagine how far you are from all of us. Are the Other Worlds really so distant?

I never met you in this life. I met the energy of the Teaching that you left behind. I was introduced to words of peace, hope, beauty, joy, service, compassion and solemnity. How much power these words have in our lives! They are like fire and water. They can lift us up or pacify ourselves. How many times did you come and rescue me from my own doubts and my own challenges? How many times did you let me open a book full of advice and knowledge? How many times did you let me bathe myself in your own wisdom and find comfort on it? I lost count.

6 - Building Your Psychic Immune System: Part 1 “The Fiery Net”

By Torkom Saraydarian
On the Path to the Fiery World, one must protect himself with a fiery net. The protective net is woven by very subtle energies with which the human soul can come in contact. The fire of the heart is the weaver. Those whose higher centers are not unfolded, or those who are obsessed, do not have a protective net. On the Path to the Fiery World one needs to weave his protective net.

The enemies of an advanced disciple are more numerous in the Subtle Worlds than on earth, and these enemies have even more opportunities to wound the vehicles of the disciple. But when he weaves his protective net, he can repel the darts of the enemies. We are told that each blow upon the protective net is returned to the sender with a more intensified tension.

5 - Why Do I Write?

By Torkom Saraydarian

As far as I can, my intention is:

- To create a love toward beauty
- To deepen the sense of righteousness
- To increase goodwill
- To inspire with the vision of right human relations
- To create courage
- To annihilate violence, crime, and exploitation
- To challenge to creative actions
- To invite people to purify their motives and work for the common good
- To inspire in them a love for all living forms
- To open in them the sense of direction, universality, and synthesis
- To inspire them to develop the spirit of cooperation with the vision of the great Avatars
- To inspire them to strive toward enlightenment, knowledge, and beingness
- To inspire people to bloom with the flowers of virtues and with the fragrance of nobility and kindness
- To inspire people to unite and form a universal brotherhood in which there is freedom from fear, from want, and freedom of religion and speech
- To inspire man to see those who stand as obstacles on the path of progress of humanity, those whose motives originate from separatism, totalitarianism, and materialism

4 - Five Types of Ageless Wisdom Students

By Torkom Saraydarian

There are five types of students:

1.Those who are full of mental inertia and need to be pushed regularly to move onward
2.Those who try hard but do not make progress
3.Those who learn but complain
4.Those who hear all but do not change
5.Those who systematically improve with feelings of gratitude

These five types need five different approaches. When your class is composed of various types, you must be a genius to talk to and help all the various types. Those who have mental inertia must be kindled. Those who try but do not make progress have hindrances, and these hindrances must be removed. Those who complain will not be able to apply knowledge in their lives. They must learn that complaint creates in them rejection toward application of the knowledge they received.

3 - Characteristics of a Real Teacher of Wisdom

By Torkom Saraydarian

There are a few major characteristics of a real Teacher. He gives great value to simplicity, joy, love, enthusiasm, and beingness. His expressions are clear and simple and arranged according to the level of the student. He also expects simplicity and clarity from his students as far as their thoughts, words, and expressions are concerned.

A real Teacher creates an atmosphere of joy and love in which the assimilation of knowledge becomes possible. He is always enthused with his task and the subject he is teaching. This enables the student to absorb the Teaching. He always emphasizes the application of the Teaching through which transformation of the personality and the formation of a new beingness become possible.

2 - Ageless Wisdom: Right Teachers and Wrong Teachers

By Torkom Saraydarian

One can read many books and hear many Teachers and remain as he is. But one day he suddenly understands a few words, for a few minutes. This is called “the touch of psychic energy.” Whenever psychic energy touches, light is produced. It is through applying this light that the student must make himself ready. Then he must surrender himself to a Teacher in humility and with the awareness that he is empty.

Many vessels are full of everything, and great Teachers wait to see if one is ready to empty his vessel to be filled with true knowledge.

Again one may ask, “What if one goes to a wrong teacher, to one who exploits and uses him?”

1 - How We Learn The Wisdom Teachings

By Torkom Saraydarian

If a student wants to learn, he must make himself ready to learn. Before he learns, there are lots of things he should do. He must:

1. Clean his body
2. Get rid of his negative way of feeling
3. Exercise control over his mouth
4. Make his mind disciplined and clear

After these things are achieved, one can impart higher knowledge to him. Before this he will either distort any higher knowledge and use it for self-interest, which means against his true progress, or he will not be able to receive any higher knowledge although he will think he is receiving it. In the latter case, the “higher knowledge” will give him deep disappointment during the time of real need or test.
