42 - Do Not Be Afraid Of Crises

From Dynamics of the Soul by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 51

We need to understand what the mantram, “Lead us, O Lord, from darkness to light, from the unreal to the real, from death to immortality, from chaos to beauty” means. Once you become a soul, many things can happen to your body, to your emotions and mind, but you do not lose your joy.

Joy is not happiness. Happiness is physical, emotional, and mental. Joy is found only on the soul level. When you reach this stage, no matter what happens in the lower levels you are above the clouds in an airplane. You can see the agitation of the sea and wind below, but they do not bother you because you are flying above them. Urgings, strivings and spiritual aspirations are found on every level, and they also push us to move forward. Every time you start striving at something, you get a message from the Guardian Angel, from your physical and spiritual teachers, or from a Great One like Christ, like your Master. Someone kicks you and says, “Get up and get going.” If you take this message seriously and listen, you progress. But if you ignore the message, you lose it. Great Teachers say, “We do not always hint. We may only hint once or twice a year.” If you listen, They increase the hints. If you do not listen, They say, “He is still asleep. Let him remain in bed until pain and suffering awaken him.”

41 - How We Kill Our Soul

From Dynamics of the Soul by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 155-156

We should have a badge which says, “What do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your soul?” It is something which every day must bug us. As you approach slowly, slowly to the coffin, think about it. Nothing will help you. That is the critical moment when you can have a little awakening and, for the next life, you will behave a little better if you did not paralyze your soul or make it really sick so that there is no chance for it to recover.

There are seven ways in which you can learn to kill your soul. The killing of the soul or the dying of the soul starts every time you do something against your conscience, or you do something against the law of love and synthesis and unity, whether it hurts you or makes you happy. Every time you do something against your heart, you wound your soul. If you continue doing things that are against your heart and conscience, eventually you make your soul sick. When your soul becomes very sick and dies, you live as a corpse in this life, spreading the most contaminated radiations around you because you are dead but living. That is why Christ said, “Let the dead bury the dead.” When Christ said, “dead,” He meant their bodies were alive but they were dead.

Living only for your body, pleasures, hatred, revenge, possession, and position kills your soul. It binds you so that there is nothing else in the Universe. M.M. says, “When you go out at night, look at the stars.” We lose the vision because we are so occupied here with killing and hating each other or acting against our own conscience. It is so important to see. Every time you are totally engaged with your bodies and pleasures and hatred, possessions and positions, you lose your soul because you do not nourish it. It needs nourishment.

How do you nourish your soul? You nourish it by Beauty, Goodness, Righteousness, Joy, Freedom, Striving, Sacrificing yourself for human upliftment, not partial upliftment. Those who are awake know that humanity is one body and every time we are hurting one part we are hurting everything. This idea is for the future and needs perhaps one, two, three hundred years of suffering and pain and destruction so that we eventually understand what we are being told.

40 - Six Birthday Gifts: Gift Six – The Gift of Gratitude

From Other Worlds by Torkom Saraydarian, pp. 414-415.

On your birthday it is good to include some solitary time for sincere thoughts of gratitude.  Make a list of those to whom you are grateful.  Start with you parents.  If they are dead, send them thoughts of deep gratitude; if they are alone, send them a card letting them know how grateful you are for all their service, trouble, and care.

Then send gratitude to all your Teachers, starting with kindergarten up to the present, and express deep gratitude to them.  Remember to send gratitude to friends and acquaintances who helped you, especially during critical times.  You can even send gratitude to people who, though they hurt you badly, taught you a great lesson or kept you alert and awake and thus protected you from falling into future mistakes.

It is wonderful to do this on your birthday to renew the network of memories and let your love and gratitude flow through the network.

39 - Six Birthday Gifts: Gift Five – The Gift of Celebration

From Other Worlds by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 414.

The next thing is to have a party.  Some people think that birthday parties are an expression of vanity, but they are not.  Great Masters have birthday parties.  Christ had a birthday party attended by three kings.  The New Testament did not write about it, but it was a great party.  If three kings come to my birthday, what else could I want?  They brought jewels, incense, and precious stones which Jesus used.  His mother did not have to worry about him financially because the three kings provided everything.

The esoteric, deeper meaning is that at the time of your birthday you are susceptible and very sensitive to new impressions and inspirations.  This is the secret.  When you have loving friends around you who are in joy, gratitude, love, and compassion, all of them together build an electromagnetic sphere around you through which you receive higher inspirations.  Without your friends, you cannot do as much.  That is why you should work to be worthy of friends who will come and express their love and good thoughts.  When a good atmosphere is created, the person who is having the birthday attracts tremendous energy into the field of this magnetic tension.

It is therefore important for everyone to celebrate his birthday.  Invite a few friends, prepare nice food, and be happy together.  Celebrate, and slowly become worthy of and responsive to their well-being.  Pray for them, bless them, love them more and more, and work for their well-being.  But if you don’t have friends, they do not evoke the highest sensitivity from you.  They do not awaken your soul.  God created societies for this reason.  People who live responsibly in societies can uplift those societies and themselves.

38 - Six Birthday Gifts: Gift Four – The Gift of Accountability

From Other Worlds by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 414.

The next thing to do for your birthday is to have a little seclusion.  Take a few hours, a whole day, a week or even a month, if you can, and escape.  Go to a cabin in the mountains, or somewhere else peaceful, and start thinking about yourself.  “I am really stupid and obnoxious, you know?   But I also have some very good qualities.  I have made a lot of good plans, but also some that are bad for the future.  How am I going to sort out this mess?” Begin to correct yourself and make plans for what you are going to do.

37 - Six Birthday Gifts: Gift Three – The Gift from a Lighted Candle

From Other Worlds by Torkom Saraydarian, pp. 412-413.

On the night of your birthday, light a candle and let it burn all night. Try to understand the wisdom in the candle as it burns. This is a practice that was followed in monasteries and it is a tradition that we followed as a family. When I was a small child, I would wake up during the night of my birthday and see the beautiful candlelight and watch the shadows playing over everything. I asked my father to tell me what it meant, but he said, “Well, watch what happens when the candle is lit.”  I thought about it as I watched the candle and said, “There is light, and also, the candle becomes smaller and smaller as it burns.”  “That’s just what I wanted you to see!” he replied.  “The candle is the symbol of a life that is dedicated to spreading light, beauty, goodness, truth, and freedom – at the expense of yourself….”

36 - Six Birthday Gifts: Gift Two – The Gift from Our Heart

From Other Worlds by Torkom Saraydarian, p. 412.

On the day of our birthday, we must offer out hearts and say, “I forgive that girl, that man, that person; and God, please bless them. I don’t want anything wrong now with the start of my day.” Forgiveness deletes certain unwanted documents from your computer so that you do not carry messy transactions of the past with you into your new day. Express gratitude to those who have loved you; forgive those who sometimes bugged you so badly that they tested your alertness and consciousness.  These people sometimes need more gratitude than others.
