110 - Unexpectedness

We are most happy to present an excerpt from Consciousness Volume 1: Evolution of Consciousness by Torkom Saraydarian now released for your reading pleasure. Consciousness is the depth and breadth with which we relate to the world and life around us; how to understand what is consciousness, how to expand safely and slowly, and how to become eventually continuous in our consciousness.  In these series of books, we receive a depth of philosophical understanding that is profoundly moving. In April, we will present excerpts from Volume 1.

Unexpectedness

When the beauty hits you and health hits you, do not think that you are going to stay in it forever. When disease hits you, do not think that it is everlasting. It is time related. The tide comes and passes. The tide comes and passes. Eventually you are “cooking.” Your character is building. That character is to create the Unchanging One within you, that neither in defeat nor in victory you will praise yourself or defeat yourself. You will say, “Yes, this is one lesson; yes, that is one lesson. Did I create the character of changelessness?”
Slowly, slowly in one life you develop ten percent wisdom. In another life you develop twenty percent. In another life you lose everything and start from the beginning. This is the life panorama. So you are going to see these things. When you see these things, then life has no power over you...
We are talking about the unexpected events of the physical, emotional, and mental planes. It is not us. Now, if you can reach to that conclusion, to that consciousness, that “This is not me. This is only physical, emotional, mental. It is not me. I am everlasting in all this phenomena,” that makes you the victorious one.

109 - Healing Wounds

Torkom's poetry gives a rare glimpse into his personal life that none of his other writings do. He shows his human and fragile side, the side that we often do not see of our great teachers. We often expect our teachers to be super-human, with none of the frailties of ordinary mortals. Yet, here and in many other poems, Torkom shows his human side and the depths of inner feelings that he often experienced but never let slow down his passion to serve and to give.

Healing Wounds

I know
it will take a long time
to heal the wounds
you gave to me.
Every time something
reminds me of you,
the wound will be
re‑stimulated,
bringing back to me
my memories,
expectations,
and dreams.

I know
you will feel
the same way.
You will feel that
I caused many wounds
in your heart
that will take
maybe a longer time
to be healed.

I know
we often, in distance,
think about each other,
dwell on our wounds,
and try to blame
each other
for our wounds.

But the day will come
when
we will meet again
on higher spirals,
after we heal our wounds,
and are ready to start
a more creative
relationship,
mutually uplifting,
mutually enjoyable,
and with
a detached attitude
deeply realized
by both of us.

Our wounds
will heal sooner
if we only, every night
before sleep,
visualize
each other’s face
and sincerely
say,
“I love you.”
