121 - Teach Your Children

Teach your children how to observe themselves, especially the moment when they try to impose their will on you. If you do not want to argue with them, just close your mouth and observe them. Soon you will see that they will come to their senses.

Most marital problems are problems of identification. When you start observing, you cut the identification and you become calm and peaceful. And because you become calm and peaceful, you have right communication, right judgment, right reasoning and logic, and right action. But once you are identified, the object of your identification controls you. If you say something bad about somebody, what are you doing? Your are really cementing yourself in him. You are becoming him and he is going to control you.*

120 - A Detached Observer?

Question: ...[how] to stop being identified with a co-dependent, someone else, and not feel all their pains and anguish that you do not have any control over but you still feel upset about it.

Answer: That is one degree, but there is another degree where you do not need anymore to be upset even. Observation is seeing things as they are without the involvement of the body, emotions, and the mind. You are a totally detached observer. You cannot be a real observer if you involve yourself with something that you are observing. Immediately when you are involved, you become that object.

You can use this practically. Suppose you are crying. Watch yourself mentally. Once you start watching yourself one hundred percent, you will stop crying because the crying one will be the object. You will be the observer.

The second stage is when you watch a miserable person in pain and suffering and you in some degree identify with him. Here you develop pity.

In the third stage you become a real observer — no feeling, no thinking, but a clear observation of things as they are.

For example, you are angry with somebody. He is howling and you are howling. Immediately you just change your attitude and say, “I am going to watch him, and I am going to watch myself.” Identification then disappears because identification is unnatural. Observe yourself.*

119 - What Controls You?

Things control you when you are identified with them. For example, if you are really, really identified with your wife, your wife controls you [husbands too!]. If you are really identified with your money, your money controls you. If you are really identified with your hatreds, your actions, your emotions, your mind, they always control you because you are them. And because they are always in agitation, you are in turmoil. You are not an independent source of light, of control, an independent unit of consciousness.

People think this is not important because they are so identified with their not-self. Not-self means your body, your emotions, your possessions, your mind, your thoughts, your ideas. They are not you, but because you are identified with them, you think that it is very painful to detach yourself from your not-self and watch it and observe it.

Once you start observing your not-self, you feel joyful, independent, free, powerful. It is not easy to do that, but the whole Teaching is based on observation. The whole Teaching is a progressive development of going toward your Real Self and becoming your True Self. This is the whole purpose of the Teaching.*

118 - Keen Observation Frees You

Observation has a supreme purpose: to dis-identify our consciousness from our bodies. Observation is a process to make ourselves see things exactly as they are. Some people maybe observe one percent, two percent, or maybe fifty percent, but it is very difficult to observe everything as it is at that moment.

Observation is done to dis-identify yourself from what you are not. The greatest purpose of the Teaching is to disengage you from whatever you identify yourself with. For example, you are identified with your body, you are identified with your emotions, you are identified with your mind, you are identified with your money, with your possessions, with your friends, with the environment, with the conditions. You are identified with what you are not. If I tell you who you are, where you are, you do not know about it because you are in your body, in your emotions, in your mind, in your thoughts, in your dreams, in your aspirations. This is not an easy concept, but you are going to understand it.

Every calamity, failure, and defeat occurs the moment that you are identified with yourself because you cannot observe, and if you cannot observe you do not have direction and control.

If you do not detach, the elementals take the control of the ship in their hands.*

117 - Freedom in Truth

As we approach the great American Independence day on July 4th, I  think of all the people all over the world fighting for freedom. People have always risked their lives for freedom. Freedom is one of the seven pillars of our life. We cannot have a life without it. Real freedom means truth and reality. Yet, misguided leaders believe they can hold onto power indefinitely by distortions of reality and truth. Sooner or later, people will see the deceit and will rebel.  We see that happening now.

I was reading the first volume of the book Consciousness by Torkom Saraydarian this morning and came upon this very fitting section that speaks volumes on freedom. I wanted to share it with all our readers, for it tells so much about what we are experiencing in every part of the world. We see these struggles in great leaders like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi and the American heroes who risked so much hundreds of years ago. I hope this passage inspires you and gives you a little pause to send your love and blessings to all those who fight for freedom and to cultivate true freedom in your own life.

Happy Independence Day; may all men and women find the freedom to live in truth and dignity. Gita Saraydarian

It is very interesting that people lose their freedom in trying to distort reality, fact, and truth. Once their freedom is gone, they fall under the influence of the unreality they created. Unreality turns the forms of Nature against those who create unreality. People turn into slaves under the power of the unreality they create.

It is horrible to lose our freedom to think, to feel, to act, and to communicate with higher centers. Our distortions, lies, crimes, and deceit take away the crown of freedom from our own heads. Freedom is the only condition to expand into Infinity. When this freedom is taken away from us, we live within the hindrances we created. Every hindrance is a source of pain and suffering.
